Mallory Bomboy Softball Tournament
Once again, Hokey Park will be hosting the Mallory Bomboy Softball Tournament on Saturday, April 27th (raindate Sunday, April 28th). This tournament is held each year in memory of Mallory. She was killed in an accident on her way to softball practice. The funds that are raised at the tournament go towards scholarships, local families in need and improvements to local parks just to name a few. Hokey Park is proud to be a host of this tournament. Volunteers will be needed from 9 am to 6 pm, working 3 hours per shift. The shifts are 9am-12noon, 12noon-3pm, 3pm-6pm. We will need help in the concession stand, parking cars, selling raffle tickets and maintaining the fields in between games. Please contact Lisa McGonigle at 610-597-0522 if you would like to help out and indicate which shift you would like. Volunteering for this event will qualify you to receive your $25 volunteer fee back at the end of the season.
Bob Warke Scholarship Program
In continuation of its Bob Warke Scholarship Program, The Hokendauqua Park and Playground Association (HPPA) will again be awarding two $1,000 scholarships.
This year marks the 26th anniversary of our basketball tournament whose proceeds are used to fund the scholarship awards. That tournament will now be known as the Bob Warke – Dale Horn Basketball Tournament and it will be held at the Whitehall Middle School from February 23rd through March 3rd. To be eligible for the Warke Scholarship, you must be a class of 2013 high school eligible graduate, be continuing your education in the fall of 2013, you must have participated in the organization’s baseball, softball or basketball youth programs, and you must complete the scholarship application form and return it to the HPPA prior to February 28th, 2013. Additional requirements are listed on the application and our web site. An application is also attached to this message. The organization will review all of the applications and select one girl and one boy to receive the scholarships at our March/April meeting.
